Your first action

Do this now

Check immediate safety, then write down your county, pickup, destination, timing, trip purpose, mobility needs and return. For a medical emergency or immediate danger, call 911.

Next: Medicaid medical trip: find your county broker

Ask: Ask the county broker to check your covered medical trip and eligibility. Routine requests need 72 hours, including weekends and holidays; book weekdays 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m. local time. Confirm access, pickup and return. For an everyday trip, use the public transit route below.

Situation: You need a way to reach care, work, food or another essential destination, including a safe return and any access support.

What you need to startUse what you have. Missing items do not block the first call.

Have ready if available

  • Residence county and actual pickup and destination
  • Date, required arrival time and return window
  • Mobility device, boarding help, child seat and support person needs
  • A safe callback method; share Medicaid numbers only with the official booking service

Without a phone, stable address or requested document, ask a trusted helper and the booking service for an accepted contact or application route before traveling.

If the first route fails

For everyday travel, no Medicaid coverage, or a medical ride that cannot be confirmed: Use the county public transit directory and the regional contacts in the plan. Ask for the actual service area, full fare, notice, operating hours, access and both trip legs. If travel cannot be arranged safely, ask the destination about remote, nearer or rescheduled service. For a denied or unresolved NEMT trip, call state customer service at 888-941-7433.

Keep the booking or care request open until an accepted trip or safe service alternative is arranged.

What remains uncertain: A public contact or Medicaid card does not confirm a ride, plan extra, affordable fare, accessible vehicle or safe return. Some rural route details and local volunteer coverage remain unresolved.

Keep the plan moving

If the first route is closed or you cannot use it

A closed office, unanswered call, or unavailable device does not prove that you are denied or that a service is unavailable. This guide lists some options, not every possible route. If it is safe to do so, ask for another appropriate contact and keep the original task open.

The office or line is closed

Record what failed and when. Use a listed same-day alternative if one exists, and keep the original call or application as a separate follow-up.

See things that may help today

You cannot use the phone or website

Check for another published channel or ask a trusted helper to open the route with you. Share only the minimum information needed. If no workable channel is listed, that gap remains unknown.

Check the official routes

Related resources can offer another path, but a listing does not confirm current hours, capacity, eligibility, or acceptance. Review related resources.

What this guide cannot promise

Reviewed guidance only. Fees, timelines, eligibility, document substitutes, capacity, and provider practices are not published unless supported by a named source. Confirm current requirements directly.

How to read checked, listed, and unknown informationA listing can stay useful without being provider confirmed.
Checked fact or route
No One Left Outside matched the fact to the named source on the date shown. This is not proof of current availability or provider confirmation.
Directory lead
A listing that may still help remains visible with an honest status such as Possibly active or Needs verification.
PROVIDER CONFIRMED
Only named fields backed by linked first-party provider evidence, integrity checks, and attributed human approval may carry this state. No One Left Outside never infers it from a website, import, likely fit, or contact attempt.
UNKNOWN / Needs verification
No One Left Outside does not know the answer yet. Confirm it directly; this is not a claim that the resource or option does not exist.

Each step in full

The same steps as the plan above, with the instructions for each one.

  1. Do firstUse emergency help when needed

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Call 911 for a medical emergency or immediate danger. Routine transportation cannot assess symptoms or send an ambulance.

    • If a medical emergency or immediate danger is happening, call 911. Do not wait on a Medicaid broker, public bus, paratransit application or volunteer driver.
    • If symptoms or travel safety are unclear, contact the treating healthcare team for a decision about care and transport.

Ways to get help for this step

    • 911 — immediate danger or a medical emergency

A medical emergency or immediate danger, anywhere. Routine transportation cannot send an ambulance.

    Limits and what to confirm

    • No One Left Outside cannot assess symptoms, determine whether travel is safe, or dispatch a vehicle.
    Why this step is here

Immediate safety comes before a scheduled ride.

    • No One Left Outside cannot assess symptoms, determine whether travel is safe, or dispatch a vehicle.
  2. Step 1Write down the actual trip of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Prepare the county, exact pickup and destination, date, arrival time, access needs and return; give private details directly to the booking service.

    • Confirm the destination is expecting you and ask how much arrival time is needed. Record the pickup point, drop-off point, outbound and return windows, travelers, child seats and mobility equipment.
    • Ask who can safely receive pickup updates if you have no working phone or a changing address. Use a trusted helper or clinic phone with permission; confirm the booking service accepts that callback arrangement.
    • Keep Medicaid numbers, diagnoses and exact private pickup locations out of No One Left Outside search text, shared links and public notes. Provide only what the official booking service needs directly to it.

Move on when: you can explain the actual trip to a booking service and have a safe contact method.

Ways to get help for this step

    • Medicaid NEMT broker for your county — Kentucky directory

A Medicaid-covered medical trip is booked with the NEMT broker for your county.

    • Public transportation provider for your county — Kentucky directory

Any other trip goes to the public provider for your county, at its own fare.

    Limits and what to confirm

    • A clinic appointment does not establish that a ride or safe return is available. Alternative callback arrangements need the booking service's acceptance.

  3. Step 2Check coverage without delaying care of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

If Medicaid coverage or the covered trip is unclear, ask the broker to check it and use the Medicaid guide in parallel.

    • NEMT is for eligible Medicaid-covered medically necessary services. Medicaid enrollment by itself does not confirm this trip; the regulation excludes QMB-only and Phase 3 KCHIP recipients.
    • An operational household car can affect approval. If it cannot be used for this visit, ask which documented exception applies: medical inability to drive, mechanical failure, work or school use during the appointment, or a needed lift-equipped vehicle that is unavailable.
    • If you recently moved, have no stable address, or the Medicaid county code differs from where you live, tell the regional broker. The regulation includes broker coordination for a county-code mismatch and county code 121.
    • If you are uninsured or coverage is pending, ask the clinic about safely keeping, moving or remotely completing the visit and compare paid public or conditional community rides while coverage is checked.

Ways to get help for this step

    Limits and what to confirm

    • Coverage approval, the medical service's coverage and the correct county coding for this person are not established here.

  4. Step 3Call the medical-trip county broker of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

For a Medicaid medical trip, find your residence county in the contacts below; routine requests need at least 72 hours, including weekends and holidays.

    • Use the county list below or the state directory. Call your regional broker Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m. local time. Routine transportation hours are Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; routine services close on the six state-listed holidays. Confirm that both legs fit.
    • Ask the broker to check the trip, household vehicle exception if relevant, approved pickup and destination, lift or escort need, and return. Ask for the reservation confirmation number; a clinic appointment or referral is not a ride confirmation.
    • A destination outside your residence county and contiguous counties normally needs a clinician's medical referral to the closest appropriate service. Ask the broker which referral or authorization it needs before the trip.
    • If notice is under 72 hours, ask the healthcare team and broker whether the specific clinician-verified urgent-care rule applies. After-hours urgent nonemergency requests use the broker's paging route. Inpatient discharges during service hours have a separate notice exception. Routine last-minute appointments are not automatically urgent.
    • Do not pay a friend or family member expecting Medicaid mileage reimbursement. Kentucky's private-auto option pays an approved enrolled driver for a broker-approved trip and excludes recipients who are that driver's family or household members.
    • For a long-distance specialty visit, Kentucky has a separate Travel Reimbursement Program. Its February 2026 instructions require a referral, Medicaid-covered medically necessary care, credentialed Kentucky Medicaid/MCO provider and prior approval at least seven days ahead. They say at least 90 miles, while the member page also says more than 90; confirm eligibility exactly at 90 miles before spending. Call 502-564-6890 or use the official form; approval is separate from broker booking.

Move on when: the broker has accepted the request with a confirmation number, or you have the exact reason and next action for a pending or denied trip.

    • May require upfront payment; do not assume reimbursement or individual approval.
    • Exactly 90 miles needs confirmation because the page uses both at least and more than 90 miles.
    • A public broker contact does not confirm a driver, accessible vehicle, individual eligibility, an exception approval or a safe return. This county list does not establish everyday public transit coverage.

  5. Step 4Check local bus and paratransit routes of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

For work, groceries, benefits visits and other everyday trips, check actual bus stops or apply for the local paratransit program.

    • Louisville-area TARC: base fare $2.25; exact cash has no transfer, while MyTARC card or mobile fare includes two-hour transfers. Qualified reduced MyTARC fare is $1.00 and the initial photo card is $5. Call 502-585-1234 for fare and route help. Check both legs against the current route timetable.
    • Lexington Lextran: adult fixed-route fare $1.00, youth age 7–18 $0.80, qualified senior age 62+, disability, Medicare or veteran fare $0.50; transfers last 90 minutes. Cash and physical passes are available. Each discount follows Lextran's own application or card rules.
    • Northern Kentucky TANK lists routes in Boone, Campbell and Kenton and downtown Cincinnati, with a $2 local cash fare. A named county does not mean every pickup point is on a route; confirm stops and the current timetable.
    • If disability prevents using a fixed route, use the access step below. Paratransit approval and reservations are separate from a reduced bus-fare card.
    • For a Medicaid plan extra ride or bus voucher, check the exact current Kentucky Medicaid plan, membership, allowed purpose, enrollment condition and available county. Use the Medicaid guide; a plan extra does not replace the state NEMT broker.

  6. Step 5Find an everyday rural ride of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Use public demand-response or a regional route for rural travel; its public fare and coverage can differ from the same agency's Medicaid broker role.

    • RTEC: 800-321-7832, paid public notice 24 hours; $1 per mile, $4 minimum, or outside regular hours $1.50 per mile, $6 minimum. Its services page names Bell, Clinton, Cumberland, Knox, Laurel, McCreary, Monroe, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Taylor, Wayne and Whitley. Its homepage also names Adair and Green; coverage there is unresolved. Booking weekdays 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m.; travel weekdays 6 a.m.–8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m., except listed holidays.
    • GRITS paid public Region 3: Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster; 800-816-3511, weekdays 6 a.m.–6 p.m.; $1.10 per mile, $4 minimum within the region, $1.50 per mile outside. Ask about notice. Region 1 and 4 public fares and availability need separate confirmation.
    • PACS: Christian, Trigg and Todd public inquiries 270-886-7999; Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Caldwell, Crittenden, Lyon and Livingston 270-821-3232, weekdays 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Saturday hours on the page are Medicaid only. Regional public fares and notice are unresolved. Hopkinsville's city bus is $2; a three-quarter-mile deviation is $4 with 48 hours' notice at 270-890-6055.
    • Licking Valley: Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason and Robertson, 800-327-5196; weekday travel 6 a.m.–6 p.m., 72 hours' notice; round trip $12 within county, $20 neighboring county, $100 outside rural area. Ask which ID is accepted, whether a lift or escort is available and whether the return is included.
    • FTSB: Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas; Rowan through MorTrans, 859-258-2722 or 888-848-0989; demand-response $1 per mile, $2 one-way minimum. Ask for the current travel and booking window. Work/education trips in those four counties advise 24 hours' notice and advertise $30 or $40 monthly passes; call 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m. to ask which applies.
    • Middle Kentucky: trips originating in Breathitt County, 606-666-7204 weekdays 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; $1 per mile, book no later than 3 p.m. the previous day, up to 72 hours ahead. Do not infer ride origins in other counties from the agency's wider service area.
    • TACK public service for Hardin and Meade residents: 270-765-2612 extension 2; no same-day service. Call by noon the prior business day, Friday noon for Monday or before a holiday closure. Prepay by phone card or cash in person. Ordinary fare $1.50 per mile, $9 one-way minimum; return costs extra. For trips over 70 miles, fare is $3 per mile and a return is charged even if not ridden; allow five or more days, and waiting over two hours adds $25 per hour. Ask for the full quote. Pickups weekdays 5 a.m.–7 p.m., out-of-town until 6 p.m.; state county directory controls NEMT brokerage.
    • Blue Grass demand-response: 800-456-6588, $1.75 per mile, $5 minimum; weekdays 6 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The current page lacks its full demand-response county list and booking notice. Bluegrass RIDE local fare is $1, Georgetown local is free; a half-mile deviation needs 24 hours. The active weekday Danville–Nicholasville–Brannon Crossing–Lexington route is $5 each way; other listed regional routes say Coming Soon.
    • If your county or exact address is absent here, use the KYTC public provider directory or ask your county aging/disability or community action agency for an active public route. Current general-public details for some LKLP, Sandy Valley and western counties remain unresolved; a Medicaid broker assignment does not fill that gap.

Move on when: an operator has accepted both trip legs and quoted the full fare, or the destination has agreed to a safe alternate service arrangement.

    • Its medical broker phone differs from the state directory; use the current state Region 4 contact for NEMT.
    • These published prices and county lists do not establish a driver or affordable trip today. Incomplete local fares, current timetables, registration, booking notice, accessible vehicle capacity and unlisted rural coverage require confirmation.

    RTEC public service counties

    • RTEC Services: Names 13 public service counties, including Taylor but excluding Adair and Green.
    • RTEC homepage: Names 15 counties, adding Adair and Green.

Practical consequence: A person in Adair or Green cannot rely on the homepage alone as proof that their public trip can be booked.

Safer action: Call RTEC with the actual origin and destination before traveling or paying; use the county public provider directory if the trip is outside service.

    Still unknown

    • These published prices and county lists do not establish a driver or affordable trip today. Incomplete local fares, current timetables, registration, booking notice, accessible vehicle capacity and unlisted rural coverage require confirmation.
  7. Step 6Arrange wheelchair or escort access of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Explain the device, boarding help and support person you need; ask the actual program to confirm a suitable vehicle, eligibility and return.

    • For NEMT, tell the broker about a lift-equipped vehicle, child seat and medically necessary attendant before booking. Children under 13 need a parent, guardian or approved designee. Required parent/guardian/escort rides have no fare; special escort certification may need a clinician's classification form.
    • TARC3 now takes new applications and renewals through ADARide.com; call 877-232-7433 for application help without internet or 502-213-3217 for TARC eligibility questions. Disability alone is not eligibility. Service follows the three-quarter-mile regular nonexpress route area and comparable hours, not all of Jefferson County.
    • After TARC3 approval, reservations are 502-560-0333; published fare $4.50 each way. Its currently linked older rider guide says book up to seven days ahead and by 4:30 p.m. the previous day, with reservations 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. seven days a week; confirm those current booking instructions when calling.
    • Lextran Wheels covers Fayette County, subject to application and healthcare verification: eligibility 859-244-2030; reservations 859-233-3433, up to 14 days ahead and by 4:45 p.m. the previous day. Fare $1.60 each way, $2 premium outside the fixed-route three-quarter-mile area; one personal care attendant rides free. Request other companions when booking; space and fare rules apply.
    • TANK RAMP application help: 859-814-2135. The program uses medical verification and a functional assessment, with strict ADA and outer service zones. Published zone fare is $2.50 or $5; ask reservations for current notice, actual endpoints, mobility-device limits, companion fare and both trip legs.
    • If denied, ask for the written reason, accessible application or appeal instructions and any temporary route the operator can actually confirm. While an application is pending, ask the destination whether nearer, remote or rescheduled service is safe; do not assume approval or a same-day accessible vehicle.

Ways to get help for this step

    Limits and what to confirm

    • The guide is older than the current ADARide notice; confirm current reservation instructions.
    • Eligibility, lift capacity for a particular device, curb/door assistance, companion approval, visitor rules and a currently available accessible vehicle remain unresolved until the operator confirms.

  8. Step 7Ask about conditional ride programs of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Older adult, disability, veteran, cancer treatment and work programs each have their own geography and eligibility; ask before relying on a free or subsidized trip.

    • Kentucky Aging and Disability Resource Center: 877-925-0037 for your county agency. Ask about transport eligibility, enrollment, fare or donation, attendant, notice and actual capacity. The referral line does not reserve a ride.
    • TANK senior rides: age 67+ with photo ID at each ride, both endpoints in service area, medical/essential grocery/pharmacy/facility purposes only; weekday travel 8 a.m.–5 p.m. except holidays, $8 cash each way. Book 859-578-6949 weekdays 10 a.m.–5 p.m., up to one week ahead; service can be full.
    • Louisville VA DAV coordinator: 502-287-6989. Free medical rides are for ambulatory veterans; a caregiver requires VA clinician approval. If wheelchair transport is needed, ask the coordinator about VTS instead. Lexington VA publishes seven-day notice and specific pickup towns/windows; confirm the coordinator and actual pickup through the VA page.
    • VA travel pay is a separate reimbursement program with conditional eligibility, documentation and preapproval for some trip types. Keep receipts and attendance proof; plan to claim within 30 days. A paper VA Form 10-3542 can be filed by mail or in person. A free DAV ride cannot also be claimed as an expense.
    • For approved Kentucky Medicaid long-distance travel reimbursement, save fuel receipts for travel to the appointment and back; the instructions do not pay for another fill-up after reaching home. Lodging is conditional, up to $90 per night per invoice; adult caregiver lodging is excluded, and an afternoon or all-day appointment needs a clinician note for hotel consideration. Food is reimbursed at the actual receipt amount or $15 per day, whichever is lower; the inpatient recipient's food is excluded. Submit receipts matching approved dates within 30 days. Some arrangements require paying upfront; ask DMS before travel. The official form requests private identifiers—give them directly to DMS, never in No One Left Outside notes or a shared link.
    • American Cancer Society Road To Recovery: 800-227-2345 for cancer-related medical rides, where volunteers are available. Allow several business days; confirm the county, caregiver need, outbound and return.
    • For work, ask an enrolled Kentucky Works/TANF case worker whether the specific employment, childcare, interview or training trip qualifies. This is a separate program from Medicaid NEMT. FTSB work/education rides have a published four-county public route; other employer or local workforce assistance remains a question to confirm.

  9. Step 8Confirm pickup and a safe return of 9

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Get the accepted booking, pickup window, return instructions and cancellation contact before depending on the ride.

    • Ask: 'Is each leg accepted? What is my confirmation number, full fare, pickup window, driver contact and return procedure? Does the vehicle and approved companion arrangement match my needs?'
    • If the return is will-call, ask who makes the call, when the last return runs, where you can wait safely and whom to call if dispatch is unanswered.
    • For NEMT, the regulation says be ready 15 minutes before pickup and cancel at least 24 hours ahead when possible; ask the broker how an emergency cancellation is handled. Other operators have separate no-show and cancellation rules.
    • If either leg is pending, tell the destination early and ask about a safe remote, nearer or rescheduled visit while the booking request stays open.

Move on when: both legs, access needs and any fare are accepted by the operator and you know the contingency contact.

Private plan · nothing is sent

    Do this

Contact the booking service and destination, keep the reason or missed-pickup details, and use a named next check if a replacement is still pending.

    • For NEMT, call the county broker about an unanswered request, denied trip or missed pickup. Give the confirmation number if you have one and request the reason, supervisor review and any actual replacement arrangement.
    • If the concern remains unresolved or the trip is denied, call state HSTD customer service at 888-941-7433. Keep the notice and follow its appeal instructions; ask how to obtain a written decision if the denial was only verbal.
    • Do not wait for an appeal to solve today's missed care. Ask the clinic or destination to advise on care continuity, remote service, a nearer site or safe rescheduling; separately compare public transit and conditional programs that can confirm both legs.
    • If no provider can serve the address, schedule or mobility need, record that specific gap and set a next check with a named person. A regional broker listing or volunteer referral does not close the gap.
    • Choose a safe contact method, name who owns the next action, and write down when to check again.
    • Keep a safe copy or reference number for each notice, submission, referral, and instruction so the work can resume without starting over.

Move on when: a trip or safe care alternative is confirmed, or each unresolved route has an agreed contact and next check.

Documents and recovery questions

Anything marked “confirmed” below has a named source and a check date. Everything else is a question worth asking, not a rule — ask before relying on it.

Trip information for the booking service

The NEMT broker needs the actual pickup, destination, appointment date/time, contact method, member information and special needs. A paper appointment reminder is not established as a universal requirement.

If it is missing

Ask the destination to confirm the appointment details and give them privately to the broker. If a requested paper is missing, ask which evidence or direct clinician confirmation it accepts.

Possibilities to ask about

  • Ask whether direct clinic confirmation is accepted for this specific request.

Last checked 2026-09-30 · Kentucky · official source: Kentucky Legislative Research Commission: 603 KAR 7:080. Human service transportation delivery.

A referral or vehicle exception only when it applies

Outside-area medical trips and operational household-vehicle exceptions have documented conditions. They are separate from ordinary appointment details.

If it is missing

Ask the broker which official form or clinician, mechanic, employer or school statement the actual situation requires. Ask the treating office or relevant issuer to send that evidence through the broker's accepted route.

Possibilities to ask about

  • Ask the broker whether a contracting-agency authorization route applies if the outside-area referral cannot be obtained.

The actual paratransit application and access verification

TARC3, Lextran Wheels and TANK RAMP have different application and functional eligibility processes; a reduced-fare card is not paratransit approval.

If it is missing

Use the current application route for the chosen program. TARC3 phone application help is 877-232-7433; ask each program about accessible forms, healthcare verification and any assessment needed.

Possibilities to ask about

  • Ask the program for an accessible application or phone assistance if the online form cannot be used.

The chosen transit program's reduced-fare proof, if needed

Age thresholds, accepted cards and disability verification differ by operator. Ordinary public travel and reduced-fare approval are separate questions.

If it is missing

Ask the operator which proof applies to your discount and how to obtain its card. Do not assume a Social Security award or another city's transit ID is accepted.

Possibilities to ask about

  • Ask whether your Medicare card or another published proof meets that operator's specific reduced-fare rule.

    1. Read the ride-denial notice and use the published review route

If the broker denies a trip, ask for the reason and written notice. KYTC publishes 888-941-7433 for denial assistance. If a document is missing

From this guide

  • If the contact or document arrangement is not accepted
    • Ask the operator for the exact barrier and available accessible intake route; ask the destination for a safe service alternative and a helper who can follow the request without publishing private details.
    • Keep the request or destination contact open, record the exact response, and agree on a named next check.
  • Missing: Trip information for the booking service
    • Ask the destination to confirm the appointment details and give them privately to the broker. If a requested paper is missing, ask which evidence or direct clinician confirmation it accepts.
    • Ask first whether these are accepted (not confirmed): Ask whether direct clinic confirmation is accepted for this specific request.
  • Missing: A referral or vehicle exception only when it applies
    • Ask the broker which official form or clinician, mechanic, employer or school statement the actual situation requires. Ask the treating office or relevant issuer to send that evidence through the broker's accepted route.
    • Ask first whether these are accepted (not confirmed): Ask the broker whether a contracting-agency authorization route applies if the outside-area referral cannot be obtained.
  • Missing: The actual paratransit application and access verification
    • Use the current application route for the chosen program. TARC3 phone application help is 877-232-7433; ask each program about accessible forms, healthcare verification and any assessment needed.
    • Ask first whether these are accepted (not confirmed): Ask the program for an accessible application or phone assistance if the online form cannot be used.

County differences

  • Offices, hours and local help can differ by county. Use the office that serves the county where the person lives.
  • If you are not sure which office serves an address, ask the agency or Kentucky 211.
  • Some routes in this guide are for Louisville or Jefferson County. Other counties may use different offices.

What No One Left Outside does not know

  • No One Left Outside cannot assess symptoms, determine whether travel is safe, or dispatch a vehicle.
  • A clinic appointment does not establish that a ride or safe return is available. Alternative callback arrangements need the booking service's acceptance.
  • Coverage approval, the medical service's coverage and the correct county coding for this person are not established here.
  • A public broker contact does not confirm a driver, accessible vehicle, individual eligibility, an exception approval or a safe return. This county list does not establish everyday public transit coverage.
  • No fare assistance, plan extra, reduced-fare approval or whole-county route access is established for this person.
  • These published prices and county lists do not establish a driver or affordable trip today. Incomplete local fares, current timetables, registration, booking notice, accessible vehicle capacity and unlisted rural coverage require confirmation.
  • Whether an office is open today, or how long the wait is
  • Whether a program has openings right now
  • Whether a particular person qualifies — only the agency or provider decides

Avoid a wasted trip

  1. 1.Recheck the location, hours, appointment rules, and current document instructions before leaving.
  2. 2.Keep originals and copies organized, and ask before handing over the only copy you have.
  3. 3.At the counter, explain what is missing and ask what replacement or workaround evidence can be reviewed.
  4. 4.Ask what was received, what is still missing, how status can be checked, and what happens if the normal route fails.
  5. 5.Keep a safe copy, receipt, confirmation, or reference number for anything you submit.

Ask before leaving the counter: “Is there anything else that could prevent this application from being approved today?”

Practitioner and helper guidance

Preparation ideas for the person and anyone helping
  • Check both trip legs and actual access before relying on a reservation.

An outbound request, fleet accessibility label or previous ride does not confirm the return or current vehicle.

  • Use the county list for the actual program and preserve every unresolved limit.

Broker geography, paid public transit area and agency office location are different facts.

  • Separate documents, client statements, agency instructions, and unconfirmed assumptions in the record.

Clear labels let the next helper reuse what is known without turning an inference into a fact.

  • End each handoff with a named owner, safe contact method, next check date, and fallback.

A referral is easier to resume when responsibility and the failed-route response are visible.

  1. 1.Ask whether an appointment is required before you travel.
  2. 2.Ask how walk-ins are handled and whether arriving early changes the process.
  3. 3.Confirm the location, hours, and documents again on the day you plan to go.
  4. 4.Ask what safe contact method will be used for changes, cancellations, or follow-up.
  5. 5.Before ending, ask who to contact and what to do if the appointment or referral cannot proceed.

Scheduling links and phone numbers are pending verification.

Day of the appointment or visit

At the office

  1. 1.Arrive early when practical, especially if you are walking in.
  2. 2.Ask for a realistic wait estimate.
  3. 3.Ask whether the office uses text messages, callbacks, or another queue-notification system.
  4. 4.Ask whether you can leave briefly and return without losing your place.
  5. 5.Prepare for a potentially long day.
  6. 6.Write down the name or department that gave each instruction, the date, and the next action.

Bring for the wait

  • A charger
  • Water and snacks where permitted
  • Medications you may need during the wait
  • All paperwork together in one folder
  • Something to do while you wait
  • A safe way to take notes and store confirmation or reference numbers

What No One Left Outside cannot promise

  • No One Left Outside does not decide eligibility.
  • No One Left Outside does not submit applications, renewals, appeals, or documents.
  • No One Left Outside cannot guarantee approval, a timeline, an appointment, or a fee waiver.
  • No One Left Outside is not a legal or benefits advisor.
  • No One Left Outside is not affiliated with any agency named on a journey page.
  • Kentucky NEMT is medical-trip brokerage; the same agency's everyday public transit service can have different counties, fares, hours and notice.
  • A published fare, contact, accessible fleet or program description does not confirm a driver, an approved exception, a plan extra, reimbursement or a safe return.
  • Some rural public coverage and booking details remain unresolved; use the actual county provider and confirm the trip before traveling.

What requires an agency or provider

  • Individual eligibility, covered purpose, service area, fare, notice, referral and reservation
  • Actual vehicle, device limits, boarding help, child seat, escort and safe pickup/return
  • Current capacity, appeal instructions and destination care or service flexibility

Journey definition needs-review; checked 2026-09-30. Next review due 2026-12-30. Dated public-source candidate covering Louisville TARC and scoped Kentucky NEMT, urban, rural and community routes. It needs additional Kentucky verification for remaining public coverage, cost and booking gaps. Provider confirmation, current capacity and individual trip approval remain UNKNOWN; publication and named review are separate.

Model-assisted research is planning input only. No One Left Outside operating doctrine supports preparation prompts only. Public first-party sources checked September 30, 2026 support the scoped contacts and rules linked in each plan step; program facts have source-specific provenance. Provider confirmation, individual eligibility, current capacity and accepted trips remain separate and unresolved until confirmed.
