Kentucky housing

Find the right housing list

Compare housing routes, find county leads and keep track of each application.

A website check is not provider confirmation. Eligibility, vacancies, acceptance and placement must be confirmed with the specific program.

Fayette County only · KY-502

Lex End Homelessness and Housing Triage

Lex End is Lexington-Fayette County’s Continuum of Care partnership. The city’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention coordinates the local system but does not provide direct resident services.

Start here

For immediate housing help in Fayette County, call 211. For longer-term housing, Housing Triage screens people experiencing literal homelessness through participating shelters, street-outreach teams and drop-in or outreach centers.

Ask: Which access point fits where I am staying, what should I bring, and how will I learn the result?

Screening does not establish eligibility, a waitlist place, referral, shelter admission, vacancy or housing placement.

Shelter starting points

  • Arbor Youth Services: Children and youth; separate youth routes through age 24. 859-254-2501. Call to confirm current intake and fit.
  • Community Action Council: Families with minor children. 859-233-4600. Call to confirm current intake and fit.
  • GreenHouse17: People fleeing intimate-partner violence. 800-544-2022. Call to confirm current intake and fit.
  • Hope Center: Adult men. 859-252-7881. Call to confirm current intake and fit.
  • The Salvation Army: Women and families. 859-252-7706. Call to confirm current intake and fit.

These are source-listed starting points, not proof of a bed, admission, transportation or current capacity.

Outreach, winter and housing lists

What remains unknown

Current access-point hours, shelter capacity, admission, eligibility, waitlist status, referral outcome and placement remain unknown until the responsible service confirms them. The number 859-280-8276 is not shown as general intake because current first-party evidence binds it only to an administrative winter-plan contact.

Public housing: start with a housing authority

Local public housing authorities (PHAs) manage public housing. The authority assesses income and household eligibility. A public-housing application and a Housing Choice Voucher application can be different lists. Use the county view to find an inquiry route, then ask which program you are applying for.

Ask: Which public-housing list covers the place I want to live? Is it accepting applications, and how do I apply?

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals.

Project-based Section 8: ask about the specific property

Project-based rental assistance supports particular housing complexes. Project-based vouchers are another route administered by PHAs, with assistance tied to a unit. Ask whether the property uses its own application or the authority's list. A closed tenant-based voucher list does not establish that a property list is closed.

Ask: Is this project-based Section 8, a project-based voucher, or a tenant-based voucher? Which exact list and application do I need?

This program provides rental assistance to specific housing complexes for low-income residents.

LIHTC: income-restricted apartments

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) housing has income and rent restrictions. A tax-credit designation alone does not mean your rent is calculated from your personal income. Ask the property for the current household-size income limit, unit rent, utilities and any separate rental assistance.

Ask: What is the total monthly cost for this unit, and which current income limit applies to my household?

Only the units rented to low-income persons in a building qualify for LIHTC.

Senior and disability housing: confirm each property's rules

Age and disability routes vary by property. Hillebrand House's website describes a senior/disability community; that wording is a lead to ask about its actual admission rules, documentation and list. It does not establish your eligibility or on-site care. Use the existing older-adult hub for care and everyday support.

Ask: What age or disability criteria apply here? Is this housing only, or are services included?

SRO and rooms: ask what you are renting

Single-room occupancy (SRO) housing can have a private sleeping room with shared kitchen or bathroom facilities. A room listing does not establish subsidy, safety, services or record acceptance. No room availability is confirmed here. Ask about the lease, all fees, shared facilities and any referral requirements before paying or moving.

Ask: Is this a leased room, an apartment or a program placement? What is shared, what does it cost, and who decides admission?

These rooms often do not contain individual food preparation or bathroom facilities.

How waitlists work

Housing lists may use local preferences and can close when demand exceeds capacity. Being on one list does not prove you are on another. Ask for the exact list name, proof your application was received, how to keep your contact information current and how to check status. No One Left Outside cannot see your application or position.

Ask: Am I on the correct list, and what must I do to remain on it?

Each HA has the discretion to establish preferences to reflect needs in its own community.
