Kentucky · What to do when…

Moved to Kentucky with benefits from another state

Tell both state offices about your move. Ask how to start Kentucky benefits and avoid a gap or duplicate payments.

  1. List the benefits you already get

Gather SNAP and health coverage notices from your former state. Note your move date, case numbers and the last benefit payment.

  2. Ask the former office about the move

Use the contact on your old notice. Report your new address. Ask for written case status and any end date to share with Kentucky.

  3. Contact Kentucky Family Support

Call 855-306-8959 or use the kynect link below. Explain that benefits remain open in another state. Ask what to apply for here.

  4. Share the old notices with staff

Ask how to send them safely. Have staff check any overlap and dates. For SNAP, ask how an old-state payment affects this month.

  5. Make a food and care plan

Ask about urgent SNAP screening if money is low. For health coverage, use Get Local Help in kynect to find a trained helper and discuss upcoming care.

If this does not work

Ask the Kentucky worker what to do if the former state has not answered. Use the existing Food Crisis guide while staff reviews the case.

Confirm before you go

Confirm the office, appointment, proof list and case status in both states. Ask about coverage dates before changing planned medical care.

The agency decides who can get help. Funds, appointments, and space may change. Keep private records with you; this page does not ask for them.
