Need a ride to a medical visit or other trip in Indiana
Indiana Medicaid can arrange rides to covered medical visits. For other trips, ask your local public transit system or Indiana 211. A ride is not set until the provider confirms it.
Step 1: Traditional Medicaid: call Verida
If you have Traditional Medicaid, call Verida at 855-325-7586 at least two business days before the appointment, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern. Ask for a ride only if you have no other way to get there. Verida calls back to confirm at least 24 hours before pickup.

Step 2: Health plan members: call your plan
If you are in HIP, Hoosier Care Connect, Hoosier Healthwise or Indiana PathWays for Aging, call your health plan to find out who arranges your rides.

Step 3: Have your trip details ready
When you call, have your member ID, full name and date of birth, a phone number where you can be reached, the pickup address, the doctor's name and address, and any special needs such as a wheelchair or walker.
- Indiana FSSA OMPP: Non-emergency medical transportation: Overview says: “Member’s ID, full name and date of birth” (checked 2026-10-15)

Step 4: If the ride is late or does not come
Call Verida at 855-325-7586 and press 2 for Where's my Ride. When the appointment is over, call Verida to say you are ready to go home.

Step 5: Know the trip limit and urgent trips
Medicaid pays for 20 one-way trips in a rolling 12 months; your doctor can ask for more. Verida can set up a trip with less than two days' notice for an urgent appointment that could not be scheduled ahead. Pharmacy trips are covered too.

Step 6: A family member or friend can drive
A family member or friend who drives you to medical visits may be able to enroll with Indiana Medicaid for gas mileage pay. With Traditional Medicaid, call Verida before the appointment to get the trip approved.

Step 7: Find a local bus or public ride
For trips that are not medical, INDOT lists Indiana's public transit systems by area, and Indiana 211 can point you to transportation help; dial 2-1-1 or 866-211-9966. Ask the system about the area it serves, the fare, how far ahead to book and the ride back.
- INDOT: Indiana Public Transit Systems says: “Indiana Public Transit Systems” (checked 2026-10-15)
- Indiana FSSA: The Hub: Indiana 211 says: “Indiana 211 connects Hoosiers with essential community resources, including food, housing, utilities, health care, transportation, and more.” (checked 2026-10-15)

Step 8: If a disability keeps you off the bus
Federal rules say a public system that runs regular bus routes must also offer paratransit for people with disabilities. Ask the system how to apply. If it has not decided 21 days after you turn in a complete application, it must give you rides until it decides. A denial must be in writing with the reasons; ask how long you have to appeal. Check the notice or call to confirm.
- U.S. Government Publishing Office (eCFR annual edition): 49 CFR 37.121 says: “each public entity operating a fixed route system shall provide paratransit or other special service to individuals with disabilities” (checked 2026-10-15)
