Indiana housing contact packet

This printout contains the next steps, source notes, and blank planning fields. Your device-only tracker entries are not included.

This toolkit gives general information and planning steps. It does not decide eligibility, confirm that a waiting list is open, submit an application, or give legal advice. Check the current official page or ask the agency or court what applies to you.

Your next steps

  1. Choose the housing path you need

Public housing and Housing Choice Vouchers are different programs. IHCDA administers vouchers across Indiana with local agencies. Use the Indiana housing county guide to find the official starting point for where you live.

“administers HCV throughout the state with the assistance of local community action agencies”

Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority — Housing Choice Vouchers — checked . Source location: Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) intro.

Open the Indiana housing county guide.

  2. Confirm who handles your area

A city-based housing authority may handle applications locally. Otherwise, start with the IHCDA provider route for your county. Do not assume that one application covers another agency or program.

“does not have a local, city-based housing authority falls under IHCDA”

Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority — New HCV applicant — checked . Source location: Applying for an HCV Voucher; Finding a Service Provider.
  3. Check the current application instructions

Ask whether the exact program is taking applications, how to apply, and whether there is a deadline. If the official page does not state the current status, call the listed agency and record what it tells you.

  4. Prepare your packet

Use the printable packet below to write down the agency's own document list, deadline, confirmation number, and follow-up instructions. Keep documents with you; this site does not upload or send them.

  5. If a housing court case has been filed, keep the court step separate

Read the Indiana Judicial Branch housing page and follow the notice from your court. The court says an application copy or confirmation messages may help at a hearing. The tracker is not a court filing.

“it might help your case to bring a copy of your application or confirmation messages”

Indiana Judicial Branch — Help with Housing — checked . Source location: Help with Housing; court hearing guidance.
  6. Set one follow-up date and a fallback

Record the next date you will check with the agency. If you do not know which local service to call, Indiana 211 is an official statewide connection point for community resources.

“Indiana 211 connects Hoosiers with essential community resources”

Indiana Family and Social Services Administration — Indiana 211 — checked . Source location: Indiana 211 intro.
