Public Beta guide

NOLO is a directory, not an emergency service. A search does not dispatch anyone. Search terms appear in the page URL and may be visible in browser history and hosting logs. In an emergency call 911.

NOLO is an independent community project. It is not operated by, funded by, or speaking for any agency, provider, or partner organization, and a listing does not imply a partnership.

Public Beta — this directory is under active review, is incomplete, and may contain outdated information. Confirm anything urgent directly with the provider.

Use the site the way the people you serve would use it — on a phone, in a hurry, without reading instructions. The journeys worth exercising:

• Someone seeking help: can you reach emergency numbers, pick a situation, search, and get a provider's phone number without creating an account?
• Someone helping another person: can you search on their behalf, and is it clear you must confirm eligibility and availability with the provider yourself?
• A service provider: can you find your own organization and suggest a correction to it?
• A reviewer: can you tell, on any listing, what has been verified, when, and what is still unknown?

Keyboard-only navigation, screen readers, large text, and slow connections are all fair game and all in scope.

It means a specific claim was checked against a named source on a named date, and that date is shown on the listing. It does not mean the program has space today, that funding exists, that you qualify, or that a referral will be accepted. If we could not confirm something, the listing says Unknown rather than guessing — how we verify describes each status label in full.

Everything below goes through Report a change. No account or contact email is required. Connection information is still used for ordinary request logs and abuse controls, as described on the privacy page.

• Information that is wrong, outdated, or contradicted by the provider
• A program that has closed, moved, paused, or changed its intake
• Two listings that appear to be the same program (a duplicate)
• Broken links, dead phone numbers, or a page that fails to load
• Accessibility barriers — these are treated as defects, not opinions
• Resources that are missing from the directory entirely
• Wording that overpromises, feels judgmental, or would confuse someone in crisis

Please do not send Social Security numbers, Medicaid or insurance identifiers, driver's-license numbers, medical records, diagnoses, immigration or criminal-history documents, birth certificates, banking details, passwords, or case notes about a client. We do not need them, and we do not want to store them.

If this concerns a confidential location — for example a domestic-violence shelter — please do not type the address. Write "confidential location" instead.

Please also do not send passwords or shared credentials through the form. Nothing in this Public Beta review requires them.

Reviewer access is the public site. It does not include database access, administrative rights, other reviewers' contact details, client data, unpublished provider notes, or internal moderation notes. Reports enter a queue that staff read; you will not see other people's submissions.

Saying this out loud saves you from reporting things we already know:

• The directory is incomplete. Coverage is thin in several categories and the homepage says so honestly rather than hiding it.
• There is no map view, no distance sorting, and no “use my location” control yet. Filtering is by city, county, and ZIP.
• There is no Spanish version yet. Machine translation of a resource directory is unsafe, so Spanish ships after human review.
• Several fields — cost, what to bring, physical accessibility — are not yet recorded for any program, so they read as Unknown everywhere. That is a data gap, not a display bug.
• There is no provider self-service portal. Providers suggest changes through the same public form, and a person reviews them.

General usability notes, confusing wording, and “this felt wrong” reactions are welcome — send them through the report form using “Something else”, or email resources@nooneleftoutside.org. Vague reactions are still useful; you do not need to diagnose the problem for us.
